The international waendel walk started in 1979 and it was a one day event which offered two walks, 29km and 34km. 479 people signed up to walk and 355 of those tried the 43km walk. 2019 marks the 40th anniversary of the Waendel Walk in Wellingborough.
This year I decided to sign up for the Waendel Walk with my mum. We had a go at the 25km all road route.
We followed the Orange route up from Wellingborough to Little Irchester and Irchester where we made a friend along the way.
We then headed towards Wollaston, Grendon, Earls Barton, Great Doddington and then back to Wellingborough. We enjoyed blue skies and amazing scenery during our walk through the towns.
By the end of the walk I did struggle, not going to lie, but it was definitely worth it and I already can’t wait to give it another go next year. Mum did want to start off with the 42km but I had never walked that far before so we decided to try the one before that. I definitely want to put in more training and give the 42km a go next time.
I am very proud to have earned this certificate and medal and will give my feet and legs a well deserved rest after walking over 40,000 steps.
