I tend to stress myself out over things that really aren’t that important. When you’re stressed, it can be difficult to calm yourself down. We all deal with stress on a daily basis, so I put together a list of 5 ways you can relax after a stressful day.

Get comfortable

Take off your shoes, wipe away the makeup, out some comfortable clothes on. Feels good right? Less restricted and you can breathe more. Those clothes are what you wore on that stressful day, they are a reminder of how bad your day was. It’s best to put on some loungewear or pyjamas the minute you get home. Get out of those clothes and put them away, out of site, out of mind.

Take a shower or a bath

Another way to help destress would be to take a hot shower or bath. The hot water will help relax your muscles from the day, and it’s an easy way to get some quality alone time which might help you relax. Put on some music, light some candles, use that special bath bomb you’ve been saving and enjoy. Make sure you put your phone on silent or aeroplane mode, this is your time, you don’t need anyone interrupting it.

Unplug, unplug, unplug. It’s probably the thing that’s most said when you’re stressed, but it’s true, social media can be dangerous. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, emails, it can all cause us stress. I know the first thing I do when I finish work is check my phone, I can spend hours just scrolling through social media and for what? You gain nothing from it. Put your phone down for a change, turn it off, put it on silent, it’ll still be there when you get back. It’ll only be for a couple hours, you won’t be missing out on much. If you find it hard to be detached from technology, one, you just realised that you have an addiction, and two, why don’t you try and watch some television, head over to Netflix and watch some series or movies.

Do something fun/creative

Find something you enjoy and don’t focus on whether you’re good at it. Can’t draw? That doesn’t matter, you can still draw. If you enjoy writing, then try and write some poetry, a short story, even start a novel. It can be very therapeutic and it might be good to get all of your emotions and feelings out on paper, it could ease your mind a little. A big thing nowadays is colouring. Buy a colouring book and some fancy crayons and get to work.

A lot of jokes get made about meditating/yoga, but it’s an effective way to ease your mind and create peace. Put on some relaxing music, find a nice area within your house, or if it’s nice outside, go outside. Begin mediating, start practicing yoga, it doesn’t matter what other people think of you, you do what makes you happy. Take the time to think of positive things, calming thoughts. Think of things that make you happy, just breathe in and out and relax.

Let me know what you do to relax after a stressful day, would love to give some new things a try! Thank you for reading, until next time.
