5 THINGS TO DO OTHER THAN CHECK SOCIAL MEDIA

We’re all guilty of constantly being on our phones, checking social media for no reason, constantly scrolling through pictures and posts. Even when I’m sat watching tv, no doubtably I’ll pick up my phone to check a notification. I even just click my home screen to see if I missed a notification, and then get back to the programme/film.

Whether you would class it as an addiction or a habit, it is up to you, but we all do it. You always feel so much better when you put your phone down for a couple hours, all of your notifications will still be there by the time you get back, it’s just nice to take some time away from a phone screen for a while. So if you feel like you’re in need of some inspiration to switch off from social media, then here are 5 things to do instead of checking social media.

Read a book

This feels like it’s the most obvious answer, but you can’t beat a good book. I really enjoy reading but I do find it difficult to put my phone down. The one place that I can read is while I’m on holiday. I bought a new book for holiday last year when I went to Cyprus and I got through half of it during that time, but, to this date, I am still reading that book now because I haven’t finished it, my phone keeps distracting me. I am determined to finish it soon though, I love reading, I love the inspiration it gives me. It takes me out of my world and on a journey, I know what all the characters are thinking, doing, feeling. I can just relax.

Colouring books

Colouring books had its own trend a year or so ago. It can be very therapeutic and calming. If this doesn’t interest you, then try picking up a paintbrush and get creative. Give it a go, it can be quite fun looking at a blank canvas and thinking of things to cover it.

Yoga/fitness

This has to be the easiest way for me to keep me off my phone. I just love the energy I get from going to the gym. I’m only ever on my phone when I’m sorting out my music, then my head is down, focusing on staying fit and healthy. I’ve never tried yoga but it is definitely something I have considered and would like to try in the future. Have you tried yoga? Let me know what you think?

Pampering

I always feel good when I take time for myself to do some pampering, I mostly enjoy face masks while I am at home. I also get my nails done every month as a treat, I enjoy sitting there while they make my hands look 10000 times better. I don’t think I could ever go back to doing my own nails, I can barely paint one hand, let alone swapping and trying the other. I do believe taking one evening every now and then to treat yourself will always be a good thing, never bad, your skin will thank you in the long run.

Get to know yourself

I know that sounds a little odd, but we learn something new about ourselves everyday.Through soul-searching you can learn things about yourself you never knew before, things that you like about yourself, things you do not, good and bad habits, your passion. It’s is so important to know what you love about yourself. You also need to realise that you’re not perfect, no one is. You need to be able to look at yourself and find any areas that you could improve, that you could change for the better, to make you better.

I hope this post gives you some ideas on how to distract yourselves from your phone.
