Who’d of thought? For some reason, I’ve been reading stories like there’s no tomorrow. I’ve always enjoyed a good book, but I got into a habit where I would read up to about half way and then stop, and not finish it till a good few months later. It happens all the time, especially when I go on holiday, I buy a book to read on the plane, but by the time I get home, it’s like I’m allergic to it and I don’t touch it again. I’ve tried to get back into reading as a way to keep me off my phone. I’d spend hours on end after work just scrolling through Instagram, Facebook and Twitter for no reason.
I initially bought the book “An Unwanted Guest” as a holiday read. I read it on the plane and didn’t touch it when I got back home, then while in London I bought another book, “Gretel and the Dark” which I thought I could read after I had finished “An Unwanted Guest”. This made me force myself to finish it (even though it was an amazing book and I’d definitely recommend) so I could read my new book. I took this on holiday, didn’t enjoy it but forced myself to finish it anyway so. This happened for quite a while until I decided one day to try and focus on reading for half an hour to an hour every night before I go to bed. I thought this was a great idea at the time!
I started off with “The Tattooist of Auschwitz” and I couldn’t put it down, it was so gripping and moving. After that, I was hooked on reading. I tried reading something different so I bought “Part of your World” which is part of the Twisted Tales series. I bought this one because I adore Ariel. She’s my favourite Disney princess and thought it would be quite nice to read a different side to the story, a story I can recall from memory! The book was just short of 500 pages and I read it in three days. This was a massive record for me. Within those three days I had bought four more books ready and waiting.
I started with “The Rumour” which was gripping, I couldn’t put it down, I finished it in just over two days, another book I would 100000000% recommend.
I have now just started reading “Me Before You”. I got three chapters in and realised that I recognise the story line, have I read this before and not remembered it? Surely not. And then I remembered that a film was realised, based on the book. So now while reading, I get flashbacks of the story in my head and have a faint reminder of what’s going to happen next. I love that though as I can compare the movie to the book. Everyone says the book is always better anyway. I have tried cutting back a little though otherwise I’d be spending all of my money on new books. I am trying to enjoy the books more and read them just a little bit slower, I keep telling myself it’s not a race!
I can’t wait to delve deaper into the book. I have “After You” and “Still Me” lined up ready to read so I can read them all in order. If the story is anything like the movie then I’m going to love it. I can definitely see why people rave about Jojo Moyes. What books have you read that you’ve really enjoyed? I’d love to hear your suggestions on books to read! Thank you for reading, until next time.
