HAPPINESS, COME AT ME

2020 is the decade for body confidence, for focusing on myself and ALWAYS thinking about my happiness. One of my goals for 2020 was to try and focus on myself and build up my confidence, to be happy in my body, my image, and focus on being me.

I always find it so hard to block out the negativity from my life. People can be so mean and rude and it can really put a downer on your life and how you think of yourself. But I’ve decided that I don’t want to take any of that sh*t anymore, I am ready to be happy in my own skin.

We often talk about the preferred version of ourselves – if I was 5 pounds lighter, if I was an inch taller, and if I was better at math… Some of these things are easier changed than others, and there’s no harm in wanting to change the things that we can change. After all, we all want to improve ourselves as a person. But more often than not, we wish to change things that cannot be changed. We may even realise this, but that doesn’t stop us from dreaming. Sometimes it’s better if we would just accept ourselves for who we are.

What is self-acceptance?

“Self-acceptance involves self-understanding, a realistic, albeit subjective, awareness of one’s strengths and weaknesses.”

Being unhappy with who you are and what you can do is often seen as the main source of motivation to improve. When talking about the “negatives”, it’s extremely important to know which parts of yourself can be changed and which can’t. There is no point in being angry or upset with yourself because you’re not as tall as you want to be, some things you can’t change about yourself, and that’s okay!

You need to think of yourself as a work in progress. People and constantly changing and evolving, so you are not a finished product. Realising this might make it easier to accept your flaws and quirks. I understand that I am not perfect, nor will I ever be close to it. But I am happy in my skin (for once). I like my quirks, it’s what makes me, me.

How has everyone’s 2020 been so far? I’d like to say mine has been all rainbows and sunshine but it definitely hasn’t, but that’s okay! Just taking one day at a time. Thank you for reading, until next time.
